Your record contains more leadership and logistics experience than most corporate applicants will ever have — written in a language recruiters can't parse. "Platoon sergeant, 2nd Battalion" means nothing to an ATS or a civilian screener. Why it works
Dollar value plus a clean audit record translates "property book" into corporate asset-management language.
What matters most
1. Translate every unit and rank into scope
Company → 120-person organization. Battalion staff → division-level planning team. XO → second-in-command / chief of staff. Never make the reader look up a term.
2. Strip acronyms ruthlessly
If an acronym isn't used in civilian job descriptions (KPI is fine; NTC rotation is not), expand it or cut it. ATS keyword matching runs on the JD's vocabulary, not the military's.
3. Lead with the clearance if the job values it
For defense-adjacent, aerospace, and federal-contractor roles, an active clearance is a hard differentiator — put it in the summary. For everything else, list it under credentials.
4. Pick a target function, not "leadership"
Operations management, program management, supply chain, security — each has its own keywords. A resume aimed at all of them matches none in an ATS screen.
